The seaside town of Castiglione della Pescaia is approximately 100 km, while the little ski facility of Monte Amiata is 60. The airports of Florence and Rome are just 120Km and 200Km respectively. Within the borders of the territory of the municipality of San Giovanni d'Asso they were found evidences of Etruscan settlements in the area of Lucignano d'Asso and Monterongriffoli, in the same area they also found Roman remains, due to the presence of temples. The castle of San Giovanni d'Asso is located in the ancient town core, on the opposite side of the parish church of San Giovanni Battista, next to the Church of Mercy. The building, consisting of three buildings joined together, was built in stages between 1100 and the first half of the fifteenth century; special importance attaches to the work conducted by the Petroni family, which acquired the castle in the early fourteenth century.
Description
This ancient and prestigious apartment is located inside the Castle; It accessed via two flights of stairs, the first one is shared, the second, large and made of travertine, private. The apartment consists of an entrance hall, large and majestic living room with high ceilings with a stone fireplace and a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside, a dining room and a large kitchen complete the "living room" of the second floor; also on this floor there are two bedrooms, one with a sitting room and bathroom en suite, and one with outside bathroom; there are two very useful service closets; a comfortable open staircase leads to the upper floor where there is a large attic consisting of triple living with features exposed beams, a dining area with kitchen, a bedroom with bathroom and two further utility rooms with shorter ceilings.
State and finishes
The apartment is in excellent condition, well maintained, with high ceilings on the second floor, partially decorated, original fireplaces, some frescoes on the walls, wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. The stairs are in antique travertine, the floors are in terracotta tiles, ceilings in beams and bricks.
